Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

$9.95 according to ebay: http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/adformat…

In the UK it is slightly different. Local classifieds are free, and classifieds for motors cost £12.95 and houses cost £35.

If you have products or services to offer submit your website to Google Local Business

This can help you can gain top search results in Google for your products or services using the Local Business service from Google. You will need to register for a googlemail account then submit your website / business details to Google's local business centre.

Marketing your Website using Directories and Website Links

The next step is to get links to your website. This is one of the most important things that you can do to help your website with regard to internet marketing and search engine results. To do this you will need to list your website on as many websites and directories as possible. Directories operate in one of 3 ways: Paid Listing Directory, Free and Reciprocal Link Directories.

Paid Listing Directory: for a listing fee your website is listed, often these are higher quality directories as only serious website owners and business's will pay to be listed. These are usually the fastest way to get listed and get links to your website, as the paid listing directories are run as a business. There are niche/specialist and general directories.

Free Directories: it can take a long time to get your website listed. As the service is free, there may be little or no control of the quality of websites being listed.

DMOZ is the most important free directory, it can take quite some time to get listed, but worth the effort, follow submission guidelines very carefully.

http://www.dmoz.org

Reciprocal Link Directories: these again can take time before your website is listed and your website will only be listed after you provide a link to them.

Website owners wishing to promote their new website in the search engines are often in a hurry to 'get results' so the listing service offered by Paid Listing Directories is the fastest way to get links to your website.

1. You should try and get as many links to your websites as possible (add your website to directories)
2. Try to get keyword links, these are links that use 'content relevant keywords' as the anchor text.

Creative ideas of what to do with £100,000?

Creative ideas of what to do with £100,000?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

Well I recently moved to Peru and here £100,000 goes a fair way. I am looking to buy a hotel by the beach for £200,000, perhaps you should become my business partner!

Creative how? Can you afford to lose it? What do you want to get out of your money?

If you want to be truly creative, are not looking to make money with it then I would invest the lot as Kiva Loans.

Kiva do micro loans to small businesses in underprivileged parts of the world. They have a very high repayment rate, but I don't think you get much or any interest. However your money would have a huge impact on a huge number of people. So go for it. Imagine the difference you could make!

  • All depends on your circumstances.

First I would pay off any debt.

Then assuming you don't want to move house etc, you could invest the rest, make full use of your ISA allowance (tax free). I would not invest it all with the same company or institution.
I'd probably, put some in a cash ISA (if you don't have one you can still use 2009/2010 allowance before April and then use the 2010/11 allowance in May.
Some in premium bonds (Ok rate is poor but so are bank deposit rates)
invest some in the stock market under an ISA.

  • Its not really creative but I would say put it in the bank in a high interest savings account (if you can find one at the moment!).

Don't invest as its too risky in the current market.
  • With the economy and the banks as they are, put it under your mattress.
  • one should do few thing

pay off you bill and debt

  • Looks like you have the kind of business that can benefit from a million in branding promotion.

With such a diversity of products I can't picture Adwords sort of promotion being very cost effective, though I do see some stores offering to sell anything being searched.

(for fun I just entered NUTBAG into google and got:
Amazon.com Buy nut bags at Amazon! Qualified orders over $25 ship free)

I see Amazon offers large sellers Unlimited sales for $39.99 a month + 8% to 15% bounty, even if your profits were paper thin it might help branding as well as boosting your buying volume power a tad.

If you are competitive price wise, it seems that placement in those price comparison sites would make sense, you name would come up a lot in the shopping process, even if you don't always have the winning price. I assume they all charge the vendor a fee, though only 2 of those below mentioned CPC up front. streetPrices has a CPC rates chart showing $0.50 min progressing to $1.00 for $5000+ products.

  • I have been promoting online for 10 years and watched the Internet change. Rather than depend on advertising that seldom gets considered anymore, I prefer to reach people one on one in the social networks or forums and direct them to my website after they get to know me. Once you get a few happy customers, word of mouth can spread that like a virus. You just need to be aware of the problems involved in this kind of promotion and avoid them.

i have no idea what that is so just explain in detail what it is.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

What Raysor said. If your a customer going to a shop for personal items the shop is a retail branch. Its only retail if the shop is selling on the behalf of a manufacture.

However I dont beleave online buying is always retail if you buy in bulk from the wholesalers or direct from the manufacture.

If you look at the business acquisitions that Google have made, you will see that they have all been 'up and running' as independent websites prior to takeover.

See here for list of acquisitions / services

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Goo…

If possible, try and launch the service first, even if its just to a 'closed network' of users for evaluation purposes.

That way you will be able to test your idea and services.

Then you have to approach each company individually, if you use a website that helps you, they will also help themselves to a substantial portion of any money you might have coming.

I'm not so sure if this has been asked before (yes, I have searched) but haven't found any that answers this particular question I have in mind. Well, I've recently become a first time seller on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170428980333&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT

And I was wondering how I could possibly go about trying to be more successful in my promoting so everyone can consider this? I know there are alot of manga fans out there, but I can't advertise on forums, or can I? Also, will my item expire? I don't want to have to pay again to keep it up there.... Looking for help on ebay is like looking for a polar bear in the desert!

(like a house could be valued at £200.000 but if no one is willing to pay that amount then its only worth what the eventual purchaser pays...Sometimes you get what you want!) I would have put it on at £25 with P&P instead of a buy it now option. You don't state how much these cost you new...I'm sure they will sell but its all about time with E bay. Good Luck.

  • Easy. Find someone else that is selling something similar and just cut and paste their hard work and make it your own. If your item doesn't work, just lie and say it does. If they conplain, it doesn't work, say it must have gotten damaged in shipping and it worked just fine when you shipped it.

Police Force's main competitors?

Resolved Question

Police Force's main competitors?

From and Service and Marketing point of view, who would you say are the Police Force's main competitors?

Best Answer - Chosen by Voters

Private sector security companies, Local Authority community wardens or Police Community Support Officers and Neighbourhood watch schemes are all obvious competitors.

However - if you are considering wider competitors, remember that as a publicly funded body they have to compete with other publicly funded bodies such as NHS, Defence, Education, Fire and Rescue Service for their slice of the budget so they are in direct competition with other public services.

Advertiser = business's wishing to use the affiliate network to promote products and services in return for offering payments to 'affiliates'

Publisher = business or individual wishing to earn money from promoting 'Advertiser' products or services

Scammed on ebay - what should i do?

Scammed on ebay - what should i do?

I paid £30 for a jacket advertised as leather, but when it arrived it clearly wasnt. I found a site on Emporio Armani clothing scams and it seems I was conned. I emailed the seller and he agreed to refund me when I returned the jacket. Should I return it and trust that he will then refund me (why should I trust him?) or should I open a dispute with ebay? What would happen if I did?

Open a dispute, otherwise you could end up with no jacket *and* no money.

pay per click marketing can be a minefield, you bascially have to start small, experiment with what converts well for you. Theres also free vouchers floating about from time to time.

Id suggest Yahoo ppc is probably the best to start

  • You have full control over campaign budgets and daily budgets on the PPC systems so can stop a huge bill being run up. We run PPC accounts for dozens of companies and have found that the vast majority of traffic comes from Google Adwords (ten times what Yahoo! or Bing deliver).

Make sure you have separate ads for each keyword group, use plenty of negative keywords and if you are bidding on a keyword then try to make sure it features in the advert and the landing page.
  • PPC sucks really. I would recommend using cash crate. You fill out surveys and stuff you don't really have to use your real info. Make a spam email to use. It's a legit program I made 45 bucks last month.

If you want to sell security products, try http://www.gobuildwebsite.com - Their software is easy yet intuitive. You can easily upload Video demonstrations of each of your products for customers to see before they buy! Just click record button in the website control panel and point your webcam to a video demonstration and the video will get recorded. This will give you an edge over other competitors that only show images of their security products. If an image can speak a thousand words like a cliche reads, a video should be able to speak a million words, LOL...

Starting the website is very easy because they have already done all the work so you can create an attractive website online without messing with HTML scripts, ftp., etc. All you would need is a website browser like Internet Explorer or Safari (for Mac fans) which you already have since you are reading this, right? For example, http://www.gobuildwebsite.com offers websites that look like they cost $5000 but since you simply choose the designs and templates you like online, it costs only $23.75/mo and that includes everything needed to get started such as a new domain name, web hosting fee, domain-related email accounts, etc. and you can even sell your products online with secure PayPal checkout that can be set-up at no cost by going to Paypal.com and setting up a basic merchant account.

This is by far the fastest way to go online with a professional looking website that has flash special effects, background music, web contact forms that send the message to email address of your choice (this alone will save hours of work with scripting). Good Luck!

How to advertise games?

Resolved Question

How to advertise games?

Best Answer - Chosen by Voters

Work out who your target market is, where they gather and pitch to them there. For example, if the games are aimed at teenagers, it's probably worth considering things like Facebook as a way of spreading the word. (Plugs for your product are not allowed but links to your site are all right.)

If the games are for the educational market then you need to think about attending education conferences that have exhibitions attached to them.

better way, is to flood the area with handbills a few days before the gig, and in the city centre on the night of the gig...

then you play for 90 minutes, do an encore if the crowd is drunk enough, and walk away with MAYBE 30 or 40 quid... then you hump all your gear into the transit van, or your dads volvo estate and get some zeds...

people will only know about the bands existence, if you tell them.. its hard work, but hard work and a good sound pay dividends... then you can order a white ice swan for the dressing room...

Do search engines index masked domains?

Resolved Question

Do search engines index masked domains?

I am trying to SEO a website, www.tarotpack.biz and have a domain, www.tarotpack.co.uk which masks the .biz site.
Will the .co.uk domain actively list itself on a UK search engine listing?

Best Answer - Chosen by Voters

No site or domain lists itself, "actively" or otherwise. A site will appear on a search engine if the engine's "spider" can see the site. The page that appears will be the page that the spider sees.

A spider is essentially a piece of software that automatically browses the web, so it will see the site in a fairly similar way to you. If you see the .co.uk site that is what gets listed.

But this does mean that a site will never appear in a search engine. Google only lists sites that it finds by following links in existing sites. So if noone links to your site it will never appear. Some search engines allow you to submit your site, but that mechanism is now a bit outdated.

Best Answer - Chosen by Voters

Have you actually sold the product to this person, and he is now asking you to send to Portugal, or is he watching the product, or made a bid and has asked the question as to how much it would be to send to Portgual.

If this has been sold to this person, message him back stating that postage was for UK based customers and that the surcharge for sending it to Portgual is an extra £2-3.

If this is a question as to how much it would cost, message him back saying thank you for looking at the item, the cost to send it to Portgual will be a further £2-3 ontop of the sale price.

If you haven't sold it yet, you can edit what you have put, and put in the bottom of the page the cost of postage. I don't understand why it wouldn't let you put postage costs on there, it normally does. Message ebay to ask them, their customer services are normally very very good at coming back to you.

Do you buy a particular product mainly because it has attractive packaging...?

Resolved Question

Do you buy a particular product mainly because it has attractive packaging...?

...or is your main consideration the cost and/or quality of the actual product?

Please give examples if you wish. It's for my dissertation. Thank you!

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

Whilst the product may look nice, its whats inside that counts. A lot like the saying "dont judge a book by its cover". For example, I am more than happy to buy the Tesco's own brand Daisy dishwasher tablets, not only for the excellent price but for the quality of the product, and yet the attractiveness of the packaging is very very poor.

However, there are two arguments for this. I think that when it comes to products for necessity e.g bleach, toilet cleaner, toilet roll, pasta, tins of food, stuff that you buy every day from the supermarket, the corner shop or the greengrocer, attractive packaging doesn't come into it, its the quality of the product and the price that does. BUT when you are looking at the other spectrum, the high end products, your luxuries, the gifts that you buy, that is when attractive packaging is important. I don't know anyone that would buy a bottle of perfume as a gift or even for themselves that didn't come in a nice bottle and in a nice box. And that is just one example.

There is also the consideration of the age of the person that the product is aimed at. If it's aimed at young women.. then a shade of pink may catch their eye regardless as to the product, or aimed at young boys a green (similar to the Ben10 green) would catch their eye immediately.

I am in my 30s, so the attractiveness of the product for its usability purpose has no bearing, but again if it was a luxury item or a gift that is when the attractiveness would kick in!

  • Yes! Anything pink - like pink yorkies or kitkats - I can't help myself - I have to buy one even though I don't like them that much! I also like anything like chocolates in pretty boxes with ribbons on them etc. - if I'm buying chocolates (for myself or someone else) I don't look at what's inside as much as the packaging. And also things like those cute little hats that they made for innocent smoothies recently - it was for charity which is another good reason to buy them, but the main reason was that they were so cool! I can't drink too much fruit juice (diabetes) so most of the smoothie ended up in the bin - I'm really bad I know! On the other hand, I don't buy fresh foods with packaging that you can't see the product that's inside (ie a closed box with no window) - I don't trust pictures on the box!And I find some packaging really irritating and don't buy the thing even if I do like it if it's packaging or tv advertising irritates me!
  • I tend to spend more time considering things are packaged in my favourite colours. I could be walking down an aisle and stop abruptly because I see something in pink/purple wrapping and pick it up just to see what it is. Half the time it's something I wouldn't look twice at! Strange but true.

Ploughing or putting money back into the business could mean a bigger profit share in the future.

  • Typically, only for (future) Growth ...

Shareholders (as a rule) choose to invest in Companies that either pay good dividends OR have high prospects of paying good future dividends ...

In the first case, if a high dividend payer cuts their dividend (or the share holders have reason to believe the divi will be cut), their share price will collapse (the share-holders will switch their capital to a rival company that continues to pay high dividends).

In the second case, share holders will only keep investing if the share price continues to rise whilst the profits are being put into growth .. since more investors = higher share price, such companies are totally dependent on investor confidence .. the minute confidence wavers, the share price collapses (eg. "dot.com boom / bust")

Resolved Question

I need an idea for my dissertation. I'm studying International Business & Marketing?

I just got back from my placement where I was working for a luxury car firm in the US. I'm in the UK. I have a huge interest in the auto industry and the technologies involved in today's cars. I just lack the creativity to come up with a suitable proposal idea which relates to my course. Please help!

Is it a good idea to have free P & P for items on your website?

Resolved Question

Is it a good idea to have free P & P for items on your website?

I have a website Premiere Replacement China and I am toying with abolishing P & P to the UK only - but unfortunately will still have to charge buyers abroad.
Would this then look unprofessional because I only offer it to one sector.Or do you think people don't mind paying P & P.
My P & P costs are low already and I don't charge for labour.
You experienced views on this would be very welcome.

If you sell items on competitive rates and people like your goods then they won't mind paying small fee for P & P.

  • I myself love free postage, especially if the item is the right price.

free P&P is always a good idea, but from your point of view make sure your prices reflect it so at least you are only out of pocket a little bit. hopefully more people will buy so more profit in the long run.
