When can you use an old song in a TV ad?

For example the GoCompare ad uses the song Over There
from the 1st World War. Is there some time limit (or any other
rule) for using old songs ?

I don't think it's a particular amount of time exactly--you just have to determine if it's still under copyright or not.

• Yes my friend. Pl see if the song u choose attracts copyright specifications.. If yes, u HAVE TO get an approval in writing from the copyright holder who MAY charge for its use. All the best -bhaarathi bhaaskaran Chennai india
